Data Sources
Ride Count NZ pulls from several public datasets. All cycling counter data is collected and published by the respective city councils — we do not modify the raw counts.
Cycling Counters
Automated cycle counter network operated by CCC. Data is fetched daily via the SmartView public API.
VivaCity sensor network operated by WCC. Cyclist counts are extracted from the WCC Open Data S3 CSV exports.
Monthly Excel files published by Auckland Transport with daily counts per counter. Data typically lags 1–4 weeks behind the current month.
Fuel Prices
Crowdsourced NZ fuel price aggregator. Used as the primary source for real-time petrol and diesel prices shown in the Fuel Price widget.
MBIE publishes weekly fuel price monitoring data. Used as a fallback when Gaspy is unavailable.
Weather
Free historical weather archive API. Daily precipitation, wind speed, and temperature are fetched for each city and shown in chart tooltips and the Hardcore Kiwi Factor widget.
